MALONE SCHOLARS

In 2008, the Malone Family Foundation in Colorado selected Wichita Collegiate School as a Malone Scholars School, providing a $2 million endowment for the purpose of providing an excellent educational opportunity for academically talented students who might not otherwise be able to attend the school.

Being a Malone Scholar at Wichita Collegiate gave me the opportunity to truly explore my academic talents and abilities. I loved how my teachers wanted me to succeed not only in their classrooms but also in life. The students at Collegiate are also intelligent and friendly. Their work ethic is infectious and inspiring. Hard work truly pays off. I am so excited to accomplish great things with everything that was instilled in me at Collegiate. I absolutely love this school. My only regret is that I wish I could've started in kindergarten.

Inspired by the impact his own high school experience had on his future, Dr. John Malone founded the scholarship program with the hope that other young scholars would be given the same opportunity to reach their potential.

Malone Scholars Schools are selected on the basis of academic caliber; quality of faculty and staff; excellent accommodations for gifted students, including strong AP and enrichment programs; attention to the individual student’s needs, interests, and talents; financial strength, stability, and commitment to financial aid; and an economically, culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse student population. There are only 50 Malone Scholars Schools in the United States, and WCS is the only one in Kansas.

The Malone Scholar at WCS gave me the opportunity to foster my love for learning in an environment that encouraged such growth. I was challenged, supported, and encouraged by peers, teachers, and staff during my six years at the school. Being surrounded by such a positive community helped me to achieve the goals I set in place for myself and even exceed those goals. Thanks to the Malone Scholarship and Wichita Collegiate, I was able to continue my love for learning at Southern Methodist University where I was a Hunt Leadership Scholar.

Without the Malone Scholar's Program, I would have missed the opportunity to attend Wichita Collegiate School. WCS teachers know you and understand what you need. They are dedicated to academics and activities. The College Counseling department assisted me individually with the college search process, applications, and scholarships. Their help has been invaluable and I feel confident about my choices.
