Junior Katrina Leddy has earned the Gold Award Girl Scout designation from Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland for her construction of a new pavilion at Camp Four Winds in Leon, Kansas.

The Gold Award is earned by a high school Girl Scout who works to address an issue she's passionate about in a way that produces meaningful and lasting change on a local, national, or global scale.

“Gold Award Girl Scouts don’t just change the world for the better, they change it for good—and Katrina embodies everything this achievement stands for," said Liz Workman, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland.

Inspired by her love of the outdoors, Katrina envisioned a space usable despite weather for all visitors to Camp Four Winds. She led the project from vision development through completion, even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My main goal was to add to the camp property and make the patio more usable for all to enjoy the outdoors. Outdoor experiences are important to me, I want to have an area at camp to protect from sun and rain,” Katrina said. “I was proud to see it all put together after all the waiting and planning. I feel a sense of accomplishment.”
