Jessica Stong, Helping our Children Thrive: Executive Function Strategies for Teens
Do you ever feel frustrated with your teens' inability to consider the consequences of their actions, control their emotions, sustain attention, or self-monitor their work?
In this presentation, Educational Therapist Jessica Stong will discuss your teen’s brain and how you can support the development of decision-making and executive skills. Parents will walk away with strategies that they can employ with their teens to create conditions for success and empower them to learn the skills necessary to thrive in all aspects of life.
Executive skills, a set of brain-based functions that cover 11 areas, include emotional control, behavior regulation, goal setting and achievement, task initiation, and meta-cognition. Research demonstrates the need to explicitly teach executive skills to all students, especially during the challenges that might arise during the teen years.
