Without the Malone Scholar’s program, I would have missed the opportunity to attend Wichita Collegiate School. WCS teachers know you and understand what you need. They are dedicated to ensuring you succeed. Students at Wichita Collegiate are friendly and dedicated to academics and activities. The Wichita Collegiate College Counseling department has individually assisted me with the college search process, applications, and scholarships. Their help has been invaluable and I feel confident about my college choices!
Trey Charbonneau, Class of 2019
Being a Malone Scholar at Wichita Collegiate School gave me the opportunity to foster my love for learning in an environment that encouraged such growth. I was challenged, supported, and encouraged by peers, teachers, and staff during my six years at the school. Being surrounded by such a positive community helped me to achieve the goals I set in place for myself and even exceed those goals. Thanks to the Malone Scholarship and Wichita Collegiate, I have been able to continue my love for learning at Southern Methodist University where I am a Hunt Leadership Scholar.
Alex Payne, Class of 2016
Being a Malone Scholar at Wichita Collegiate gave me the opportunity to truly explore my academic talents and abilities. I loved how my teachers wanted me to succeed not only in their classrooms, but also in life. The students at Collegiate are also intelligent and friendly. Their work ethic is infectious and inspiring. Hard work truly pays off. I am so excited to accomplish great things with everything that was instilled in me at Collegiate. I absolutely love this school. My only regret is that I wish I could've started in kindergarten.
Kiana Knolland, Class of 2013
In 2008, the Malone Family Foundation in Colorado selected Wichita Collegiate School as a Malone Scholars School, providing a $2 million endowment for the purpose of providing an excellent educational opportunity for academically talented students who might not otherwise be able to attend the school. Inspired by the impact his own high school experience had on his future, Dr. John Malone founded the scholarship program with the hope that other young scholars would be given the same opportunity to reach their potential.
Malone Scholars Schools are selected on the basis of academic caliber; quality of faculty and staff; excellent accommodations for gifted students, including strong AP and enrichment programs; attention to the individual student’s needs, interests and talents; financial strength, stability, and commitment to financial aid; and an economically, culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse student population. There are only 50 Malone Scholars Schools in the United States, and WCS is the only one in Kansas.
In order to be considered for the Malone Scholars Program, a student must:
be entering grades 7, 8, or 9;
score at or above the 95th percentile on standardized achievement tests;
- have a demonstrated record of high academic achievement;
- demonstrate financial need of at least 30% of tuition; and
- be a United States citizen.
The application process includes:
- Completing the Malone Scholars Inquiry form.
- Submitting an Application for Admission.
- Completing an Applicant Questionnaire.
- Providing a current transcript and standardized test scores.
- Requesting a current teacher to complete a Teacher Evaluation.
- Completing the Indexed Tuition process.
After application materials have been received, qualified finalists will be invited to come write a brief essay and interview with Collegiate's Malone Selection Committee. We are currently planning to award two Malone Scholars for the 2021-2022 academic year. Once selected for the Scholarship, the student continues as a Malone Scholar through graduation as long as they remain in good standing at Wichita Collegiate School. We currently have six Malone Scholars enrolled at Collegiate.
All application materials must be submitted by February 15.

What expenses are covered by Malone Endowment Funds?
The Malone Endowment will fund tuition expenses up to 100% of demonstrated need as well as certain other school-related expenses such as lunch, supplies, and certain trips. Upper School scholars also benefit with funding for a limited number of college application fees, ACT and SAT fees, and a budget for trips taken during the college search process. Certain fees cannot be covered by Malone funding, such as athletic participation fees, fees for any activity that falls under the jurisdiction of the Kansas High School Activities Association, and optional trips.
What if I am not selected as a Malone Scholar?
Wichita Collegiate offers the same challenging and enriching environment to all students, whether or not they qualify for or were selected as Malone Scholars. Each year, a number of finalists are able to take advantage of the opportunities we offer with the aid of our Indexed Tuition program.
