About Wichita

HISTORY OF WICHITA

Wichita was first visited by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, a Spanish conquistador, who was in search of gold. While on his search he encountered the Quivira Indians or otherwise know as the Wichita Indians. The Wichita Indians moved to Oklahoma in 1719, but due to their Pro-Union views during the Civil War, they moved back to what is now Wichita.
