Expect Great Performances!

Onstage at Wichita Collegiate School

Drama
Wichita Colllegiate School supports an active theatre
program that both introduces Middle School students to the
world of drama through improvisation, story study, and
characterization and offers college and professional
preparatory classwork to Upper School students who are
thinking seriously about university theatre or even
professional theatre. Drama is a subject taught throughout
Middle School (5th through 8th grades) and Upper School.
Classroom work lays the foundation for a variety of formal
productions at all levels. Each year major productions are
staged for actors and technicians in the 5th and 6th
grades, 7th and 8th grades, and Upper School. Original as
well as standard repertory plays are produced at the Upper
School level. The Collegiate drama program has
successfully prepared numerous students for studying at
top theatre schools (Interlochen, DePaul University in
Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Hartford,
New York University, Sarah Lawrence College as
examples) who are working towards a professional career in
the theatre.

Musicals
WCS produces two major musical productions in the Upper School and one in the Middle School each year.  Past productions include Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Cats! and Aida, and we were one of the first Middle Schools in the country to produce Disney’s High School Musical.  WCS productions are well known in the greater Wichita community and our students have been fortunate to receive recognition for their work through the Jester Awards program through Music Theatre of Wichita.
