Expect Beautiful Music

Wichita Collegiate School has enjoyed a strong and important music program since its beginning. The Board and Administration understand the benefits that the study of music brings to our students, and we have enjoyed amazing talent and performances over the years. As a college preparatory school, Wichita Collegiate is committed to graduating fine arts seniors that are ready for the rigor of studying music in the College of their choice.

Vocal Music
The Vocal Music Department teaches with an effective blend of performance and fundamentals. Our students can be seen performing concerts all over the city of Wichita, from our young boy and girl choirs (Grades 4 through 6) through the Middle School mixed ensemble and finally to the Upper School Madrigal and Dynamics groups. Our Madrigals perform and tour in Europe every other year, motivating our young students to work hard in order to become members of this elite group. Not only do we emphasize performing, our classes are taught with continual education in the fundamentals and appreciation of music and how it works. We produce 2 major musical productions in the Upper School and one in the Middle School. Past productions include Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Cats! and Aida, and we were one of the first Middle Schools in the country to produce Disney’s High School Musical. Our groups consistently earn top marks in all music competitions and festivals.

Band
The Instrumental Department has grown significantly in the last few years. Our band program has tripled in size in recent years. It is definitely “cool” to be in band! Students begin learning to play an instrument in the 5th grade and continue through the Upper School, where additional opportunities are the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Drumline. Our Drumline was featured in the professional production by Music Theater of Wichita of Disney’s High School Musical, where they received thunderous applause every performance for their creative and complicated routine. A beautiful new band room has been added to our Upper School building where students spend countless hours making music together. The bands compete in Music Festivals at Dallas, Texas and Winter Park, Colorado where they receive excellent ratings. Many of our students graduate and pursue a degree in instrumental music.
