Tutorials

Expect teachers to be available.

It’s “cool to be smart” at Collegiate; it’s also cool to stay after school for tutorials!

In keeping with the Mission of WCS to “provide the highest quality education for each student,” Collegiate teachers don’t race out the door as soon as classes are over. They stay in their classrooms for the hour after school (and in many cases, longer) to provide tutorials for students. Tutorials provide great opportunities for extra help, extra practice, extra confidence-building. Many students take advantage of tutorials on their own; however, teachers may also request that a student attend tutorials.

Lower School teachers hold tutorials after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. In the Middle School, tutorials occur daily from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., with a shortened schedule on Mondays to allow for faculty meetings. Most Middle School activities don’t begin until 4:00 p.m., but on those occasions when they do begin before 4:00, students are excused for tutorials.Getting a great education is first and foremost at WCS; coaches and activity sponsors are in agreement that “tutorials come first.”

Tutorials also come first in the Upper School, and activities and practices do not begin until tutorial time is over. In addition to after-school tutorials, many students also arrange to meet with teachers in the mornings or after lunch. This high level of support helps students perform at a high level in our college-prep curriculum. Easy access to and good relationships with their teachers distinguish WCS students when they go off to college. Collegiate graduates are not hesitant to contact their professors.
