Collegiate History

In 1963 several courageous families took the bold step to start a private school. Dissatisfied with the education that their children were getting, they banded together, laid out a plan, committed the resources, and started on a journey by creating Wichita Collegiate School. That was 40 years ago and the dream is still forging into the future today.

Collegiate was founded on principles by people with principles. Basic to its core beliefs on educational philosophy, Collegiate’s founding emphasis was on academic excellence in a college preparatory program, individual attention to and recognition of each student in a low student-teacher ratio environment, and the development of sound personal values necessary for responsible citizenship.

For 40 years, Collegiate has remained steadfast in its commitment to the various tenets of our educational process. However, Collegiate has always been a leader in embracing those changes that make learning more effective, more meaningful and more pertinent for our students. Not quick to adopt every new “fad” in education that comes along, Collegiate faculty realize that today’s students are different in some ways from our students of 40 years ago. Through recent scientific studies in brain research, more is known today about how students learn as well as the different ways students can learn, based on their individual strengths.

An eye on excellence, an emphasis on academics, and an environment dedicated to the individual student is where Collegiate started, where it is today, and where it will be tomorrow.
