The library
is a multifaceted place that promotes
many forms of learning, from reading to
research to studying. Our libraries are
wonderful assets to the Collegiate
community.
Library Mission Statement
The mission of the Wichita Collegiate
School Libraries is to support and
enrich the curriculum by providing high
quality library materials and services
to enable students to effectively access
information and become life-long
learners.
Through the Reading Incentive
Program, the library encourages
students to read. Each year Lower School
students participate in a different
program. This year’s program is “Dive
Into Reading.” Students read and record
the number of pages they’ve read, and
return sheets to their classroom
notebook. At the end of each nine-week
grading period, students will receive
certificates and awards for their
completed levels at the Lower School
Assembly. In addition to the awards,
each student completing the basic level
will be invited to attend a
build-your-own sundae party in the
library.
Through the Accelerated Reading
Program, the library promotes
reading for pleasure with the Middle
School students. To encourage students
to read and earn points beyond the
required amount, students who accumulate
100 points have their names placed on
the Wall of Fame and are invited to eat
lunch in the library twice during the
year. At the end of the school year,
students in the 100 Point Club
receive a certificate. Having their name
added to a plaque that hangs in the
hallway honors the student who earns the
most points in his/her grade level.
Promoting reading is only one of the
facets of the library. Early Childhood
students visit the library weekly and
begin learning to love books through
their lessons. Lower School students
also visit the library weekly and are
presented with lessons that help them
develop library skills as well as
promote a love of reading. The library
also offers a place for students to come
study and work on research projects
throughout the day and after school.
Middle School students utilize the
library daily for studying, making-up
exams, and working on research projects.
Fifth graders attend library class every
two weeks to receive further instruction
on library usage, while other classes
are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
Upper School students also utilize the
library for studying, research, make-up
exams, and receiving library instruction
on a daily basis.
